Course Information
Aim of the Course. This course aims to prepare and enhance the institutional capacities of peacekeeping training centers to be able to facilitate and deliver training for female, male officers and soldiers to be deployed to multidimensional, integrated peacekeeping missions with a Protection of Civilians mandate in the roles, responsibilities and tasks of an Engagement Team(ET).
Training Outcome. The course will contribute to capacity building for troops contributing countries. Participants will be prepared to train future ET leaders and members, infused within Infantry Battalions of TCCs deployed to peacekeeping missions.
Objectives.
a. Develop awareness and understanding of the responsibilities and roles of the ET to effectively operate in peacekeeping operations with a Protection of Civilians mandate.
b. Create an understanding of the complexity and characteristics of the operational environment in today’s conflicts and the ETs role in an integrated mission.
c. Create a common understanding of UN peacekeeping operations and various agencies in the field, including aspects of operational coordination.
d. Understand the elements of Protection of Civilians, including Conflict-Related Sexual Violence and Child Protection, and develop skills and the ability to respond to these issues.
e. Enhance understanding of the importance of addressing various cross-cutting issues to include Human Rights, Gender and the implementation of SCR 1325, Code of Conduct and Discipline, Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) etc through sound leadership and administration.
f. Develop the capacity of female officers and soldiers to enhance effectiveness of operations to protect civilians, particularly in regard to community engagement and information gathering.
g. Enhance the presentation and facilitation skills of participants with a focus on facilitating scenario-based exercises.
