  Concept
 

The role, task and whole matrix of peacekeeping are becoming multi- dimensional.  More so every UN mission is unique and has little similarity.  Therefore education of peacekeepers should be more of general purpose training, which makes them prepare to work wherever the UN blue flag is flying. To meet this requirement, BIPSOT runs two Contingent Members Course (CMC) in a year of four weeks duration for selected officers likely to be deployed for UN tasks.  This training is not specific to a particular mission but general training to develop skills as a contingent member.

  Aim

The aim of this course is to prepare officers to work as member of military contingent in Peace Support Operations.

  Training Objective

Upon completion of the course officers should be able to :

 

Organize security and logistic of their contingents.

Undertake UN peacekeeping  technique as part of their military contingent.

 

Orient themselves on issues related to UN (UN in general, organization, UN charter, Human Rights aspects etc) and other peace partners.

 

Understand general safety, security and log aspect of a military contingent.

 

Understand media management in accordance with UN policy.

 

Acquire knowledge and skills on handling of Global Positioning System (GPS).

 

Understand negotiation, liaison and mediation, media management, mine awareness and first aid, hygiene and sanitation.

Gather knowledge with sharing experiences and discussions on the critical lessons learned from various Peace Support Operations missions.

Understand and be able to analyze different situation, cultural aspect, code of conduct and gender issues in mission area.

 

Understand the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and its applications to UN environment.
